Warrington Quiz League

The April Quiz Grand Prix will be held on Saturday 1st April 2017 at Alford Hall Sports and Social Club, Manchester Road, Warrington commencing at 11:30am.  For further information contact Dave Tilley on tilsit@btinternet.com. 

The draw for the heats of the MQL MIMIR competition have been made and are shown below. The matches will be played on Wednesday 22 March, beginning at 8pm at New Brighton Cricket Club, Mortuary Lane, Wallasey.

The final will be held at the MQL Presentation Night on Wed 10th May 2017 at a Warrington venue.

A football themed quiz is to be held at the Ship and Mitre, Dale Street, Liverpool on Thursday 9th March 2017.

The quiz starts at 7.30pm, with refreshments at about 9pm.  All quizzers are welcome, and if you would like more details, please email Steve Lomas at steve.lomas1@btinternet.com

I recently received this message from Tom Gatley's son, David.  Can you help him find what he's looking for?

My father Thomas Edward Gatley who died in November 1996 was treasurer of the WQL for several years. He played for St Bens. 

In 1997 or 1998 the Thomas Gatley Memorial award was given to the best person who had won nothing else. The award was made on finals night. I've been trying to find the newspaper accounts of the event but have not been successful. Do you have any newspaper cutting, photographs or similar of the event and the name of the winner? Or alternatively do you know when the finals event took place so I can have another look for the newspaper account of the event?

• The Warrington Individual Competition will be held on Tuesday, 31 January 2017 at the Bull’s Head, Church Street, Warrington commencing at 8pm prompt.  All members of all teams are invited to take part.  You will note that there are no League matches taking place that week, so we can hold the Individual Competition on Tuesday – a normal quiz night.

The draw has been made for the Challenge cup, with the following groups having been drawn.

Group matches take place on 12th October, 9th November and 14th December, with the later rounds on 8th Feb, 8th March and 10th May 2017. Full fixture details can be found in the fixture calendar for the relevant dates.

Endemol are looking for teams of FIVE PEOPLE to take part in a BRAND NEW general knowledge quiz for ITV.
