In response to the increasing effects of the Coronavirus outbreak the MQL make the following statement;

From 16 March 2020

1.  Any remaining individual matches in the Leagues may be completed by the mutual agreement of the teams involved taking into consideration the teams, the venue, the proximity of seating, etc.

2.  No team is under any obligation to play a match.  Should a team wish to withdraw they may do so without reproach.  They should inform their League Secretary, their opposition and if necessary, their venue.  If a trophy, title, promotion or relegation depends upon the outcome of the match then it may be postponed until after the current situation is resolved, otherwise the match may be declared a draw.  Teams will all be asked to keep the question sets secure.

3.  Feeny / Rendon Cups to be postponed.

4.  A decision about the Liverpool/Wirral Riley Cup (due to start on Monday 30 March) to be made by Sunday 22 March (Advisory).

5.  The Merseyside Mimir heats (Wednesday 18 March) to be postponed.

6.  The MQL Finals and Presentation Evening (Wednesday 13 May) to be postponed as should any League Presentations and end of season events.

7.  The holding of the MQL AGM (Sunday 5 April) to be suspended until a time when a conventional face to face meeting may be held.  In the meantime the President, Chairman, General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary and Treasurer will consult in order to make such plans that are necessary for setting up the 2020-21 Season.

These decisions have been made bearing in mind that at all times the health of players (and their families) is paramount.

Important Warrington Quiz League Information

After a discussion between Cliff and myself and after taking into account the latest increase in the rate of infections due to the Covid-19 virus, we have taken the decision to postpone both the Warrington Individual Mimir this Tuesday at the Bulls Head and also the Presentation and Finals Night at Burtonwood Community Centre the following Tuesday. Re-arranged dates for both of these events will be notified once the current situation has been resolved
    As the profile of demographic of the Warrington Quiz League matches that of the highest risk, we feel that this is the most prudent decision that we can make in order to reduce the risk to our members at this time. We are aware that you all enjoy taking part in the quiz league, not only for the quizzes but also for the social interaction that this affords. We have not reached this decision lightly but feel that with the current information that this is the only responsible course of action that we can take at the moment.
    This decision refers to these two events only. Any decision about the Merseyside Mimir on Wednesday, the Merseyside Finals Night and the Feeny and Rendon trophies will be taken at the MQL Council meeting tomorrow evening. If you have any comments that you wish to have voiced at this meeting please inform me by e-mail asap and I will ensure that this happens.

Warrington Quiz League Notification

As I am sure you are all aware, the UK is in the midst of a Covid-19 infection. As a result of this there have been discussions going on, as to how we should react to the current situation, which is still evolving. There are only two Warrington-only based events to consider, the Warrington Mimir finals and the Presentation and Finals night. As things stand at present it is the intention, because of the relatively small number of people involved, to proceed with the Individual Finals at the Bulls Head on Tuesday. However we are aware that the situation is constantly evolving, and given the fact that Cliff and I will both be attending the MQL Council meeting on Sunday, we will take the opportunity to discuss and make a final decision whether or not to go ahead with the competition. If we decide not to proceed with the individual competition then we will not proceed with the Presentation and Finals night the following week. We are fully aware of the demographic of the league and what this entails to the members of the league and the concerns of the individual members of the league.
    If the Individual competition does go ahead then a final decision about the Presentation and Finals night will be taken at this competition, as several WQL council members will be present. Any subsequent dates for rearrangement of these events, if necessary, will be decided at a later date as the situation becomes clearer.
    As mentioned above there is a scheduled MQL council meeting this Sunday. I have requested that, due to the exceptional circumstances, the MQL General Secretary, puts this to the top of the agenda. Any decisions arising from this will be circulated to members of the league as soon as it is practical to do so.
